What Do I Write About?
A lot of bloggers will tell you that you need to find a niche to blog about. The most popular niches are things like fitness, finance, health, reviews, etc., however there are plenty of successful bloggers who don’t have a particular niche. Picking a niche helps you to narrow down who your audience will be, however if you pick too narrow of a niche you can run out of ideas for your blog posts. So if you are going to write about a niche, try to find one that is broad, popular, and of course that you are knowledgeable and passionate about.
Contrary to popular belief, you can have a successful blog without picking a niche. Lots of successful bloggers have personal blogs that are simply about them, their daily activities, or the beliefs that they have. If you are an exciting person, or maybe you have a pretty decent following on social media, people just might tune in to support you in whatever you decide to write about. Readers love someone who is interesting or relatable, and without a niche you will have endless topics to write about.
How Do I Set Up a Website?
I am going to start off by saying that I recommend using WordPress over the other blogging sites that are out there. WordPress is the site that I use to host the blog you are reading right now, and I have had nothing but amazing experiences. It is user friendly, has lots of customizable options for your site, has great customer support, and you will already be a part of a huge, amazingly supportive, community of fellow bloggers. With a little bit of exploring you can easily figure out how to design the website of your dreams.
Another thing that I love about WordPress is that you can grow at your own pace. If you are simply interested in seeing if blogging is for you, you can start a WordPress blog for free. When you decide that you want to start customizing it further and get your own official domain name, you can upgrade your plan to get more storage, better themes, and it all comes at a fairly reasonable monthly price. So no matter how far you want to go with blogging WordPress can grow with you.
How Do I Grow My Follower Base?
Growing a blog is not an easy task, so get that into your head now. For some bloggers it can take years to get a blog up to the amount of followers and readers that they want, while more experience bloggers can reach a steady amount of monthly readers in half of a year. It all depends on the effort that you are willing to put in to your blog.
Social media is a great way to grow your following. Millions of people visit sites like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest every single day. Having an account on these sites, staying active, and posting quality content is a great way to start loyal followers to visit your site. Not to mention once they follow you on social media you have a direct way to get your newer content in front of them.
Being active in the blogging community is also a great way to get your blog out there. Bloggers that are in the same niche as you will read your content in order to learn more, and they will be able to help you with tips, advice, and moral support. So make sure to get involved with other bloggers, and join some blogging groups so you can learn as much as possible.
Finally, you’ve probably heard of a little thing called SEO (Search Engine Optimization). This is the process of getting your website and posts to rank at the top on search engines like Google, and can be a great way to get organic traffic to your blog via search results. Ranking for certain keywords can get you thousands of daily and monthly views, and can be the building base for a really successful blog. This takes time, effort, and a lot of research, so be prepared to do plenty of reading if you really want to get good at SEO marketing.
Can I Really Make Money Blogging?
Yes! It is very much possible for you to make money. You could essentially make money even with a couple hundred visits to your blog every month, however that would be really hard. Bloggers can make money in a variety of different ways.
One of the main ways that bloggers can make money is by readers seeing or interacting with advertisements. Google Adsense and WordPress Ads will pay you when someone clicks on an ad or views an ad on your website. Basically, they are compensating you for your ability to get their ads in front of your readers. Get enough readers each month and you can make a pretty penny off of these ads.
Another way that bloggers earn a living or side income off of their blog is through affiliate marketing. This is the process of marketing products or services for a company in exchange for a commission on sales. With programs like the Amazon Associates Program you can make a commission on almost any product under the sun, meaning you can tailor the products to fit into whatever niche you decide to blog about.
Finally, sponsored posts can be a great source of income for a blog. Companies will pay thousands of dollars for a popular blogger to write a review on their products, or describe their experience with a product. Sometimes the blogger can even get the product for free as well. These sponsored posts help the companies get a direct channel to possible customers, so it is good for the company and the blogger.
These are not the only ways that you can earn money from a blog, but they are the main ways that most bloggers make their money. If you work hard, build a relationship with companies, and do your research, the sky is the limit.
Stick With It!
Blogging is not easy, and sometimes it isn’t a lot of fun either. You will have good days and bad days as a blogger, and you will feel like quitting. I know because this is the fifth blog that I have started, and this is the first time it really felt like it was clicking. If your first blog doesn’t feel right, trash it, rethink your strategy, and try again. Once it feels right, throw yourself into it, and watch it grow. Have fun with your blog and make something that can change your life for the better.
